\o?

So Sony is going to replace my ereader for $100 (significantly less than buying even a refurbished one would be) but they only have the silver one available. I'm so going to miss my pretty red reader. :( Of course, it will also be a lot less likely to get lost when I put it down on any of the wood tables - the cover was a red-brown that under low light would blend in with the woods we have in the house. Perhaps I'll now invest in a fancy skin for it. I get it back in a week. So overall, \o/ with a bit of :(.

I highly recommend you take advantage of the following offer from [info]idiomagic:

Tarot Readings

I did readings professionally in New Orleans for many years. Many of the people on my friends list can attest to the accuracy of my readings. I use the William Blake tarot deck, but will use the Rider Waite if you prefer. I'm keeping my prices very low in the hopes of attracting greater volume.

$5 for a three card reading
$15 for an in-depth reading
$40 for a detailed overview of the coming year

Some terrible things were brought to my attention today. Don't tell me, I don't want to know.

I ranted (quietly) to a coworker and the darling that he is not only listened to my bitchfest, but genuinely tried to offer me advice. And then he said something about, we should meet for lunch next week. And then I went about my day, inventorying arrows, teaching people the importance of catalog numbers and why YOU SHOULD NEVER REMOVE A CATALOG NUMBER!, rescuing kodachrome astronomy slides, trying to convince my boss to send me to California for photograph preservation training, and more inventorying of arrows--you know, the usual, when I went back to my desk, I thought briefly--I wonder if he truly meant that we would meet up next week ('cause you know people say things all the time--we'll do lunch, sure, I'll call you tomorrow, we'll talk later, I am not making double your salary and taking credit for your work, no, I am not cheating on you, I love you...things they don't mean. all the time) So, I was wondering if said event would happen. Well don't you know, he had already sent me an outlook invitation (we must have all our hours accounted for in microsoft outlook). So, we are going out for lunch next week.

I am looking forward to breakfast tomorrow; I bought cereal. Honey bunches of oats with almonds. I haven't had cereal in months. I must lead a really sad and pathetic life (ok, i do) since I am writing (ok blogging and there's a difference) about cereal. And in fact, I recall blogging about cereal in the past. haha. Maybe if it brings so much joy to me, I should buy it more often. Just a thought.

Tomorrow I wear a snowsuit and a respirator. Oh joy. The inventory of bodies shall commence.

Cut for bigness ) EDIT: I was slow on this so I'm not moving it to the fashion filter like I usually would have, since I think maybe one person who isn't on the fashion filter already commented! Oops!

Vegan treat review!

  • Jan. 6th, 2010 at 7:04 PM
Usually when I talk about vegan food here it's either stuff i've eaten in a cafe/restaurant somewhere, or something i've whipped up at home. I don't really talk about specific brands or products. But recently i've tried these delicious chocolate bars (or 'candy bars' as they are alternatively known on the North American continent) which I must tell you all about oh god they are so delicious.

Now, i've had vegan chocolate and chocolate bars before. The Organica Coconut Chocolate bar is a pretty good Bounty-esque snack. I've had truffles, i've had marshmallows, i've had all sorts of sweets. But this small range of chocolate bars is nearing the best in vegan sweets i've tried.

Image taken from the product site

I'm lucky enough to live within walking distance of Toronto's vegan store 'Panacea' - they carry a fine range of all sorts of foods, including delicious candies, chocolates and other treats. I saw a couple of these Go Max Go bars on the shelves and remembered seeing them on a blog or Twitter at one point but figured they were a US-only thing and promptly forgot. Or should I say my sweets-radar filed away the knowledge for later and when I saw them at Panacea my brain went "DING DING! SWEEEEET!"

Unfortunately thanks to the donkeys delivering packages via Canada Post (or so it seems) the store had only gotten the Mahalo and Buccaneer bars in - I tried one of each and was delighted! It made me go back a couple of times until I saw all the stock had been delivered and I snapped up a Jokerz and Twilight too. Let me tell you a little about each of them.

Mahalo: "If you crave a gently sweetened coconut candy bar topped with three whole dry roasted almonds and covered in a luscious chocolately coating… hang loose, the Mahalo™ bar is for you!" - from the product site.
This is pretty much a spot-on vegan Bounty but with the added deliciousness of roasted almonds riding on the top. I quite like the crunch of the almonds with the sweet texture of the coconut mix, and the rice-milk chocolate coating (used on all the bars) is a nice compliment, not too overpowering of the flavour like a dark chocolate would be.

Buccaneer: "How does a rich, fluffy, chocolately nougat covered in a creamy chocolately coating sound right about now? If you can't answer because desire is consuming you… aye matey, 'tis a Buccaneer™ bar for you!" - from the product site.
I don't know if this is what Pirates eat, but if they do they're probably a lot less surly about their scurvy. Soft and fluffy and just sweet enough, the chocolate filling is like what you'd find in a Milky Way (in Australia/UK!). I smooshed mine a bit on the way home but I assure you this does not impact on the tastiness one bit.

Twilight: "imagine that rich, fluffy, chocolately nougat topped with a layer of thick, buttery-tasting caramel all wrapped up in our very own creamy, rice-milk chocolately coating. If this gives you sweet dreams of good taste, then the Twilight™ bar is for you!" - from the product site.
Same name as the shitty movie, but infinitely tastier! I just now devoured my first Twilight bar and it's what tipped me over the edge to come and write this review. This one resembles a Mars bar - the nougat the same as the Buccaneer bar but with the added bonus of the incredible caramel. Soft. Gooey. Incredibly flavourful. SO CARAMELLY. Oh man. This one is my favourite by far. It's got a good texture to it as well, not as soft as the Mahalo or Buccaneer.

Jokerz: "When your idea of the perfect candy bar is all about peanutty goodness, then we've got you covered. If layers of dry roasted peanuts, buttery-tasting caramel, and rich peanut nougat, sweetly wrapped in a delicious chocolately coating sounds like a little slice of heaven, then smile, the Jokerz™ bar is for you!" - from the product site.
This comes in a pretty close second to the Twilight, it's a really nice one. The closest to a Snickers without having a Snickers, this is peanutty - but not overwhelmingly - a nice crunchy, robust snack bar. The caramel and nougat are a nice combination in this one, rather than each standing out on their own. I reckon if they made this but with roasted almonds I might cry tears of joy.

Now I know these are available all over the place, I felt I should spread the word. These are by no means health food (though they are transfat free at least) - like any sweets try to have them in moderation. If you're like me and like to indulge every so often and know you can have any 4 of these delicious treats at your fingertips, you won't be sorry. There is no way I can have anyone say to me "oh but you can't eat anything when you're vegan!" now and not whip out one of these suckers and yell "EAT THIS MOTHERFUCKER!"

Ohhh yeah. Abuse by vegan treats. There's worse ways to go, I suppose.

Well I wonder how much snow there'll be when I awake for my long trudge into work (wrong way to think, for my lovely long winter wonderland walk *g*)

Have just used a Cinders bath bomb from Lush. The popping candy in it really does make a fab crackling sound, maybe not quite like an open fire but close *g*

And now I am having some of my lovely Rosebank whiskey, curled up in my pyjamas and dressing gown and being OH SO GLAD that the computer is back in the warm living room (means I can't be sad the tree has gone)

And also plotting summer trips and holidays I'll probably never manage and even if I will I should be pondering visits nearer at hand first.
